Sledding in Paradise on Thanksgiving!
A Walk up the lane, camera explanation
Water heavy over the falls in March 2002

Welcome to Paradise!

About our Cabin:  Paradise Dome's construction is a geodesic dome with five A-Frames attached in a star pattern.  The center has a raised dome ceiling, and looks like a soccer ball from the inside! This is a very efficient design as reflected in our annual heat bill.  We are the second owners, and in the summer of 2004 we invested in a brand new roof.  Because of the heavy snows in the area we decided to cover the entire roof with a rubber liner under the shingles using Grace Ice and Water Shield. We put aluminum  in the valleys and at the bottom 18 inches of the roof edges.  This metal helps the snow release from the shingles and lessens ice cycles on the bottom edges. We normally do not have to shovel off the heavy snows because of this decision.  The cabin has both a full shower/tub with sliding doors, and another separate stand up shower. There are a washer and dryer in the full bathroom.  We have a large combined kitchen and dining area.  The cabin is fully furnished with linens, towels, cooking utensils, silverware etc. There are dressers and a comfortable double bed in each of two private bedrooms.  Each has a closet and there is extra storage space up the circular stairway behind the large loft.  There are two more double beds in the loft area.  Because of the dome ceiling, the loft is the kids favorite area. Due to the acoustic design of the dome ceiling, they can hear us whispering about them at the kitchen table.  The couch in the family room is a queen sized sleeper sofa that easily folds and unfolds when needed. This is the boys favorite place to sleep. The floors are a very durable ceramic tile downstairs and carpeted upstairs.  The cabin sleeps ten, and is ideal for a couple of small families to share, or fits ours just right.   It is very cozy in the winter, and cool most of the summer.  We have a window air conditioner stored up there, but rarely ever used it. The cabin is located one mile west of town just off the Tahquamenon  falls snowmobile trail.  It is down the lane behind the NAPA auto repair owned by Mike Hobbs. The lane in front of the cabin connects directly to the local and statewide snowmobile trails, so you get the access without the noise.

We also have three lots adjacent to it. The cabin and lots are wooded, on high ground, and about an acre each.  The cabin has electric, phone, well and septic. The lane is kept open during the winter for a reasonable cost of around $500.00 per year.  The cabin has a fast DSL internet connection and phone service.  Most cell phones work in the Paradise area.

Activities in the immediate area: In the summer months I enjoy riding our six wheeler around on the two tracks and logging trails in the area. Our neighborhood beaver family has built a new dam on the creek near our cabin and we enjoy watching their progress. There are several historical areas that we enjoy seeing in the different seasons and of course the Waterfalls (both upper and lower) are the major draw in the park.  The lighthouse and museum at Whitefish point are very popular and you can easily spend a half a day exploring them. In the winter months, snowmobiling or cross country skiing is king.  Because the  DNR trails cut through the woods 100 yards west of  the cabin, you can easily get to the groomed trails.

Bird watching is very popular in the area year round, and the cabin has abundant blueberries on the grounds.  We have both the high and low bush varieties. If the lighting is just right you can catch them growing on our camera that looks at our neighbors cabin.  They will be the little blue dots at the bottom of the picture in season. (Aug/Sept) There is something special about having pancakes with fresh blue- berries from your own front yard mixed in the batter.  The cabin is secluded, but less than a mile from town.  We often walk through the woods to go to the store in the non snowy months.  We are 11 miles south of Whitefish Point
www.wpbo.org  and 11 miles east of the Lower Tahquamenon  Falls on M-123.  I never get tired of visiting both falls nearly every trip.  The "Soo" is a little over an hour to the east, and is the Chippewa county seat.  The cabin is located in whitefish township.

Snow shoeing is possible on the lane that runs past the cabin away from the snowmobile trail.  You will rarely see other human tracks, let alone run into another sole!  I enjoy the photography that winter presents to us more than snowmobiling now. The trails around the cabin tie into the extensive snowmobile trail system in the UP of Michigan.  They are some of the best anywhere on earth, and you can find the local trails by clicking here.  If you have never seen snow measured in feet and cold measured with a frozen mustache, then come visit Paradise in Michigan's Eastern UP.   If you want to see what else is in Paradise check out any of these fine businesses or call the Tourism Council or Chamber of Commerce.

God Bless Your family, thank you for visiting with us,
