The Davis Family

October 15, 2002: While true that the last year has not gone the way we had planned, and many have had us in their prayers, we have been doing better in the last seven months. We are closer as a family and have learned to laugh again.  We are learning to cope with a situation that we will most likely never understand, or get over.  I am amazed at the genuine love and kindness that the people of Bellefontaine and West Liberty have shown my family.  I have learned that the church is not only a place of worship, but one of healing and learning. I am going through the R.C.I.A. classes this fall and Spring.

This fall Gracie's grave received the headstone we designed for her.  It is a culmination of many months of prayer, soul searching and hard work by the people who create these monuments to the living after they have gone on.  If you would like to see some pictures you may follow the link here.

On March 6, 2002  Gracie died

We found out May 22, 2002 that epiglotitis most likely killed Gracie.  This is the swelling of the epiglotis (Epiglottis: flap of tissue that covers the glottis to keep food from entering the trachea.) You and I know it as the "hangy-down thing" at the back of your throat to the point that it blocks the airway. I wish I could say that we feel better knowing this, but we don't.  We are thankful though that it is an illness that is not common in children.

One of the things I would like you all to know is how amazing our friends and family have been.  Everyone has been praying for us and lending support in many different ways.  One thing that helps us the most is how many people have talked to us about their different losses they have experienced.  Many people have listened and shared their experiences.  For these people we are truly gratefully.  Please keep us in your prayers.

Tracy has written three poems in remeberance of Gracie.  Click Below to read them.

Christmas 2001

In 2001 Christmas was spent in Ohio.  This picture is taken on my parents stairway.  I am so glad I took lots of pictures. Gracie had allot of fun climbing up the steps and sliding down again on her bottom. She was always under the watchful eye of her brothers and parents.

Christmas 2000
In 2000 Christmas for our family of six was at the Dome.  Notice the difference in the snow depth between this picture and the one below it!  You will also notice "daddy" couldn't make it back in front of the camera in time.  Seems 30 pounds and 30" of snow were a nearly impossible combination!  We had a wonderful 14 day stay.

October 2000

Last year we made a quick trip up to the Dome October 19th - 22nd to setup the camera and hang the Christmas lights.  We also took up "Santa's" gifts for the boys and Gracie.  Seems he found us at the Dome last year.  We arrived at the start of Michael's School's Christmas vacation. You will notice we had a "little addition" from last year.  I also noticed that it was getting a bit more difficult for me to beat the camera back to my seat before the flash went off.  It seems I gained 20 pounds over the past year "due to the pregnancy".

Thanksgiving 1999
Our first long weekend in the Cabin brought us a few flurries. For the first time in fifteen years, we spent Thanksgiving on our own.  Our family of five shared the turkey with Jay and Laura, our dear friends from Paradise.  There was plenty of food left over.

In the picture above, we are on the south side porch of the Dome.  It was cooler than it was at our home in Ohio, but warmed up nicely in the  afternoon.  We will be spending many more long weekends here.  The boys, Gracie and Tracy like the many woods, and the peace and quiet.  I like the fact that very few people know how to reach me up here!  The cabin's phone number is Top Secret, but listed in the "Soo" phone book.

The picture below was the first CabinCam snowstake.  We moved it off the tree later to keep the heat from the tree causing inaccurate temp readings.  We also moved it closer and put up a bigger thermometer later. Brutus joined us after Christmas 1999.

This was the original Snow-Stake. Click on pic for higher resolution picture
